Victorian carved Ivory Rosewood framed calling card holder c1850. This "Chinese Ivory Card holder" is framed in a solid rosewood case. The detail is exceptional with birds, figures, dogs, flowers, wines. The hand carved frame measures 21 and one quarter inches high,14 and one quarter inches wide and 3 inches deep. The carving itself measures 11 inches high by 6 and one half inches wide. In our opinion this piece is equal in quality to pieces in the Victorian and Albert Museum in London England. We believe this piece to have been carved in China and shipped to the United States and framed in the 1850's.The back is made from two pieces put together and then the front was attached that is why there is a slight line showing in the center of the piece.

Antique Black Forest Carved wall shelf. This "Carved wood" dark oak"Black Forest wall self" is quite important. We have only had a few pieces of this quality in our 30 years of selling fine antiques. Black Forest wood carvings from the mid to late 19th century are difficult to come by. This carving depicts what looks like a heron that has just flow into a marsh grabbing a snake by its feet and flying upward to the sky above. What makes this piece so important is that (not including the original top self) was carved from a large single piece of dark oak, not carved from several pieces laminated together like the later pieces we come across. The carving measures14 and one half inches high, and 8 and one half inches wide, 5 and one half inches deep. The original shelf measures 11 and one half inches wide and 8 and one half inches deep. Mid to late 19th century. Excellent original condition including finish.
