We believe this to be a Mexican Majolica frog fountain. Although it could possibly be of Spanish or Portuguese origin. Colorful "arabesque" tilework and the distinctive quatrefoil shape are typical of all three countries whose histories and cultures are so closely intertwined. But the whimsical frog spigots are more characteristic of the light-hearted Mexican spirit than the Iberian sensibility. The four pictorial tiles depict scenes from the classic Spanish tale of Don Quixote.
